Samsung Galaxy S10 Launch

Role | Senior Visual Designer & Concept Direction

Phase 1: Concept Ideas

Ebay and Samsung partnered up to offer pre-orders for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 Launch. With the S10 slated to launch on March 8th, 2019, we were tasked to concept and present to Samsung some idea's a few weeks prior to launch before we could post official material on ebay.com.

Some key challenges were: not knowing full details until product announcements, receiving details on offers and promotions, while also combining both Samsung and eBay branding in a cohesive manner. Below are a few concepts I created and presented to our creative management team.

Color Palette

In utilizing "Fill Your Cart with Color", we use sections of the color wheel for seasonality purposes. During this time, we are now within the blue, teal, and green phase of eBay’s color wheel.

The juicy midtones and leaning into teal help capture eBay’s vibrant spirit and empowering movement. The teals also lend a bit of excitement for the new flagship device and help elevate the products.

Phase 2: Concepts brought to life

From sketches to Photoshop, I created low fidelity mocks for the eBay homepage banner of what the S10 Launch Campaign assets could look like. With limited details and information provided from Samsung, we assumed we would want to showcase the front and back of the flagship device along with possibly showing ear buds as some sort of "Freebie" from Samsung.  The FPO sticker indicates the phones are "For Placement Only" purposes as we did not have early access to what the Galaxy S10 would look like.

Phase 3: Solid Concepts to Present

Phase 4: A "Pivot" to the Finish line

Below are the final assets that our Creative Leads and Samsung had approved to go live. While Phase 3 was almost a wrap, there was a pivot and details changed at the last minute during the review and approval processes. Samsung was also unable to fulfill free ear buds for customers who pre-ordered on ebay. In sticking with a simple design where it was the front and rear shot of the phone, we were able to remove the diagonal look that helped promote the free ear buds we initially thought Samsung would provided. This is where we landed for the final design below.
